Parkinson’s Disease Progression Slowed with Dance Learning over 3-Years

Parkinson’s Disease Motor Symptom Progression Slowed with Multisensory Dance Learning over 3-Years: A Preliminary Longitudinal Investigation

  • Sixteen participants with mild severity Parkinsons Disease engaged in a weekly 1.25 hour dance class at Canada’s National Ballet School and Trinity locations in toronto
  • Took place over 3 years
  • Found that those who trained weekly had less motor impairment
  • People with parkinson’s disease who train once per week had an overall slower rate of change in motor scores when compared to PwPD who do not train
  • Our results indicate positive benefits of weekly training for stopping disease progression of motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease
